The Family Resource Center is a Place for Your Family to Connect, Grow, and Find Support
Parenting comes with joys, questions, and challenges—and you don’t have to navigate them alone. The Main Street Family Services Family Resource Center offers a welcoming space where families and individuals can find support, build connections, and access resources for their families.
With locations in Elk River and Big Lake, serving Sherburne County and surrounding communities, we offer:
- Help finding resources: Guidance connecting with food, housing, utilities, employment, benefits, and other community supports.
- Support with everyday needs: Help accessing diapers, food, and other essentials, along with emergency assistance for eligible families.
- Parenting support: Classes, groups, and conversations that offer practical tools, encouragement, and opportunities to learn alongside other caregivers.
- Family activities and connections: Events, playdates, and activities where families can spend time together and meet others.
- Financial and emotional support: Connections to budgeting guidance, financial advocacy, mental health resources, and services that fit your needs.

5 Protective Factors
At Main Street Family Services, we believe in the power of families and the potential of every child. Our approach is based on the Strengthening Families framework, which focuses on five Protective Factors that are key to family stability and child well-being:
- Parental Resilience: We support parents in building their capacity to cope with life’s ups and downs, helping them bounce back from challenges and grow stronger.
- Social Connections: We foster a network of positive relationships for families, providing emotional support and practical help from friends, family, and neighbors.
- Concrete Support in Times of Need: We ensure families have access to basic necessities like food and housing and services like healthcare and counseling during times of stress.
- Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development: We provide parents with information and resources about how children grow and learn, helping them to respond effectively to their child’s changing needs.
- Healthy Social and Emotional Development in Young Children: We promote nurturing relationships between parents and children, which are crucial for a child’s emotional well-being and overall development.
Resilience grows not from the absence of struggle, but from the presence of support.
